As the slopes were about to close we started hiking up the face of mount Ellen. We followed the main lift all the way to the top. We wore snowshoes the entire hike.
As we were closing in on the first summit it started snowing. There were not many views to be had from this point on into the evening. The ridge was well packed out and we made good time.
The hike down was in the dark. Our head lamps against the falling snow was difficult to navigate but the ski slopes were being groomed and the light of the machines made our descent a bit easier. We reached the bottom after a short hike. We tried to rally up for our final planned hike of Killington. We collected cars and had a quick mountain house dinner before making our way over to Killington. I was deliriously tired. I think everyone else was too. We ended up falling asleep. 4 mountains on 3 hikes on limited sleep. It was a great go, but we fell short. Next time for sure…
