Vermont 4000 Footers: Killington

Bucklin Trail

7.3 Miles

Our attempts of a single day Vermont 5 were halted by the need to sleep. We woke up Sunday to a busy parking lot. We lost Andrew because he had plans but Jason and I got some breakfast and drove to the Bucklin trailhead. The hike in was pretty flat. The climb up went well. It was really cold so we layered up at the shelter. My microspikes broke after 5 years of use. So I barebootwd till the climb then used snowshoes. The trail was a sidewalk all the way to the top.

It was a blast of a weekend. I am really glad we got some views on Killington Sunday. We may have failed our challenge of all in one day but we now know what it takes to do it. Getting more sleep before starting would be a great start. With the Vermont 5 finished I have only the 13 peaks remaining in Maine for my New England 67. With the dreaded month of April approaching it could be a bit difficult, but who doesn’t love a good hiking challenge?
